Autumn brings the new, spring brings the best!On March 14, the best fashion films from previous editions will be showcased in a one-day festival-installation.The sixth edition of World Fashion Shorts will feature a curated selection of short fashion films showcasing the standout works presented at the festival. These include the winners of the annual competition, as well as films from an ever-growing number of partner festivals worldwide. The competition was launched at the World Fashion Shorts festival in 2024. While the competition takes place in autumn, the spring edition offers a unique opportunity to experience some of the most remarkable films from previous editions.
Due to the distinctive format of the festival-installation, the event is not divided into competitive and partner sections. Instead, the selected films are organised into eight thematic video streams, which are screened simultaneously around the perimeter of the Artplay Multimedia Hall. Some themes remain constant; for instance, many directors explore fashion in relation to urban or natural environments. However, new thematic groups also emerge. For example, the previous issue was expanded to include a thematic strand of films about fashion that echoed popular genres of the big screen.
The project, organised as a special event of Moscow Fashion Week and the BRICS+ Fashion Summit, aims to strengthen cooperation with fashion film festivals worldwide and create a global network of connections. This network will support regular exchanges of films and expertise, fostering integration and mutual influence. Partners of World Fashion Shorts include the Cinettica Fashion & Art Festival (Mexico–USA), the Buenos Aires International Fashion Film Festival (Argentina), the Manila International Fashion Film Festival (Philippines), and Brazil Immersive Fashion Week (Brazil). During one of the previous editions, the founders of two festivals – Dfaniks (Cinettica) and Bench Bello (Manila IFFF) – led masterclasses on fashion film production. The Greek independent film festival Artfools also participated as a special guest, and this collaboration will continue. In addition to presenting the best films from previous editions, the upcoming World Fashion Shorts festival will showcase new films from partner festivals. The program will also feature winners of World Fashion Shorts competitions.
The sixth edition of World Fashion Shorts will take place on March 14, 2026, at the Multimedia Hall of the Artplay Design Centre in Moscow as part of Moscow Fashion Week. Further details of the program will be announced closer to the date of the festival.
Alongside preparations for the sixth edition of the World Fashion Shorts film festival, applications will be accepted for the autumn competition. For more information, please follow the news on

World Fashion Shorts: highlightsWorld Fashion Shorts is a one-day multimedia installation that brings together fashion, cinema, and video art. It showcases the short and striking works from the growing fashion film genre, which continues to gain popularity among both fashion brands and wider audiences. The project was first presented as a special event at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit on 30 November 2023, drawing significant interest from fashion industry professionals and young viewers alike. Both the films themselves – which explore fashion through the lens of cultural diversity – and their unique presentation style offered an unusual experience for the audience. The films were showcased simultaneously on multiple screens arranged around the perimeter of the hall, allowing viewers to create their own viewing strategy. Audiences could either focus on the highlighted film at any given moment or explore unexpected visual rhymes and contrasts across the different screens. This setup created a kind of personal montage, with moving images surrounding viewers on all sides. In this way, World Fashion Shorts is more than just a curated selection of fashion films; it is a full video installation where individual works combine to form a new artistic statement about fashion in the contemporary world. The format’s distinctiveness defines the project’s uniqueness — World Fashion Shorts can be experienced only in one place, and on one day.
World Fashion Shorts: historyFollowing its successful launch in 2023, the spring edition of World Fashion Shorts 2024 took place in the same ‘full immersion’ format, including an updated program and an increased number of themed video streams. Spectacular and sometimes enigmatic visuals were used to create a multimedia experience, and the public talk, which featured international guests, explored the development of the fashion film genre in Russia and around the world. Then, the festival announced an international competition to participate in the autumn edition. Experts from various countries viewed over 60 short films from around the world and selected the best ones to form the program shown in October. The spring 2025 program brought together the finest works from all previous festival editions. On August 30, 2025, the second World Fashion Shorts competition took place, shaping the festival’s seasonal schedule with the formula ‘Autumn brings the new, spring brings the best’. Every year, the festival embarks on fresh and exciting journeys at the intersection of fashion, cinema, and video art.
The genre of short fashion films is actively developing around the world. The World Fashion Shorts selection includes videos from South Africa, North and South America, Central and Southeast Asia, Europe, Russia and Belarus. Together they create a picture of a huge diversity of cultures and expand the understanding of fashion. The experimental multimedia format of the World Fashion Shorts project emphasizes precisely this aspect of fashion films. The third edition, which upheld the principle of cultural diversity, showcased Russian films prominently. The best of these were subsequently presented at partner festivals of World Fashion Shorts and screened in Berlin and Manila. The fourth edition summarised the results of the festival before the new competition round began, while the fifth presented an entirely new program of competition films and content from partner festivals. A special highlight of the fifth edition of World Fashion Shorts was Masha Yashnikova-Tkachenko's performance, ‘Intense Pursuit’, which explored the relationship between dance and photography. Spring 2026 is almost here, which means the best of World Fashion Shorts is coming back.
