World Fashion Shorts Film Festival Announces Open Call

Designers and directors from around the globe can submit their applications.

Applications for the seventh edition of the World Fashion Shorts film festival will open on July 3. The event will take place on September 27 as part of Moscow Fashion Week. Films selected by the Advisory Board will have the opportunity to be screened at international partner festivals. Now in its third competition cycle, the festival will accept submissions on its official website until August 1.

Competition Criteria

Eligible entries must have a runtime of 1 to 5 minutes and explore themes of fashion and cultural diversity in the context of the city, nature, the human body, or relationships. Standard formats, such as traditional runway footage, are not allowed. Films created using artificial intelligence are welcome. The open call is accessible to creators worldwide.

About World Fashion Shorts

World Fashion Shorts is an immersive installation festival bridging fashion, cinema, and video art. Presented as a one-day multimedia showcase, the program features short films from across the globe, celebrating cultural diversity while broadening perspectives on fashion as an artistic medium. The inaugural edition took place in 2023; in 2024, the festival introduced an open call for submissions and established an international Advisory Board.

The primary mission of World Fashion Shorts is to foster the fashion film genre while providing high-level networking opportunities for directors, designers, and brands. Simultaneously, the festival is expanding its global network through mutual content exchanges with international partner events. Films selected by the Advisory Board will be eligible for screenings at prestigious international festivals, including the Cinettica International Fashion & Art Film Festival (USA), Manila International Fashion Film Festival (Philippines), Buenos Aires International Fashion Film Festival (Argentina), and Brazil Immersive Fashion Week (Brazil) – whose curators serve directly on the WFS Advisory Board.

The project debuted on November 30, 2023, in the Multimedia Hall at the Artplay Design Center as a special event of the BRICS+ Fashion Summit, generating widespread acclaim among industry delegates and a broader, predominantly youth audience. As the fashion film genre expands globally, the World Fashion Shorts selection brings together works from South Africa, North and South America, Central and Southeast Asia, Europe, Russia, and Belarus. Together, these entries paint a rich picture of global cultural diversity and expand the boundaries of fashion. The experimental multimedia format of WFS ultimately serves to highlight this dynamic evolution in fashion filmmaking.
